LIVE WORKSHOP FOR K-12 EDUCATORS
Learning Takes Flight: Experience Active Learning Together
Plan a dream trip with fellow educators while exploring practical ways to bring collaboration into your classroom. Join Katy Jacobson from Stride and Anita Chawla from Engageli for a hands-on workshop where small group discussion, polls and quizzes, and shared decisions put you at the center of the learning experience.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
Active learning gives students opportunities to discuss ideas, make decisions, and work through challenges together. Designing those opportunities means thinking about how learners are grouped, what they’re working toward, and how teachers can support them along the way.
In this workshop, you’ll experience that process as a learner. Katy Jacobson from Stride and Anita Chawla from Engageli will guide you through a collaborative travel-planning challenge. Working with a small table team, you’ll build an itinerary that balances a shared budget with different traveler preferences, using a rubric to keep your discussion focused.
As the activity unfolds, you’ll experience polls, regrouping, and facilitator visits to your table. Anita and Katy will then connect the experience to classroom practice and explore how participation insights can help teachers reflect on what happens during a lesson.
Join us on November 5 to participate, ask questions, and discover ideas you can adapt for your own learners.
This is a participatory workshop. You’ll join a small table team, contribute ideas, and make decisions together while Katy and Anita facilitate the activity. Come ready to explore a destination, work through choices, and reflect on how the experience could translate to your classroom.

What we'll cover
Practical strategies to bring active learning to your classroom
-
01
Design a collaborative challenge
Experience how a shared goal, clear constraints, and a focused rubric give small groups a structure for discussing ideas and making decisions.
-
02
Use polls and quizzes to shape participation
See how a poll can surface learner preferences and bring participants together around shared interests.
-
03
Facilitate learning at the tables
Observe how Katy and Anita visit groups and support discussion as teams work through their travel plans. See how real-time engagement indicators help the facilitators take a targeted approach to walking the classroom, identifying which tables need support.
-
04
Review classroom participation
Explore teacher and student talk time, participation at tables versus the full class, and insights from notes, chat, and reactions. See example classroom data and consider how these signals can inform your teaching.
